Wedding Hair!

Now that April is here, wedding season is just around the corner! In fact, it is already beginning! So today I want to talk a little about some bridal hair, because I sure do love me a good up-do, or down ‘do, if that is what you would like to call it ; )

So I will share a few pictures and offer a few suggestions for your big day!

First of all, it’s important to lower your expectations : ) Your hair may not be able to do exactly what you are looking for. If you have a LOT of hair, sometimes you need to hide a good chunk of it to get it out of the way, and that can take up more space. If you don’t have much hair, sometimes you have to make up for it, and it may not come out exactly how you want it. Sometimes it is just impossible to have hair that looks like Sofia Vergara, or Lauren Conrad, or Jennifer Aniston. I’m really sorry. In a perfect world we could snap our fingers and our hair would do exactly what we want! There are almost always ways to get around to what we are looking for, but sometimes it just cannot happen. So be prepared to be open, just in case.

Secondly, be open to your stylist’s creativity! A lot of times if I see a picture of an up-do, I will create a look very similar, yet slightly different, with my own twist on it. It is not because we get selfish, I promise : ) It’s just that an up-do is a personalized design, everyone does them a little different, and sometimes when you have those extra few pieces of hair, it is up to your stylist to decide how to curl them or pin them or leave them alone.

Thirdly, make sure your stylist asks the important questions:

– are you looking for volume, if so, how high?

– do you want your bangs to fall down softly in the front?

– do you want it all tightly pulled back?

– are you looking for something soft and romantic or controlled and pulled back?

– will you be using any sort of hair piece? i.e. headband, veil, flower, flower crown, etc.

– if you are wearing it down, do you want any pieces pulled back?

– if you are wearing it down, what type of curl are you looking for?

Here are a few pictures of wedding styles I have done.

A simple and delicate up-do! This would be perfect for a summer wedding. This would work well in the warm weather, for a bride who will be hitting the dance floor quite a bit. Beautiful, simple, and completely out of your way.. You could always leave a few pieces in the front framing your face so that you still have a very soft up-do. This could also serve as a great bridesmaid style!

This half-up, half-down ‘do was perfect for this bride. Courtney’s hair is far too beautiful to be all up. So we decided this was the best way to go. These curls were just enough to last her the night but weren’t too disney princess for her sophisticated day.

A funky and detailed yet still romantic style.

This beautiful young lady was a junior bridesmaid in a friends wedding. She wanted her hair pulled back with a soft french braid into a styled and controlled up-do.
